The quest to cure our bodies through alternative medicine is on the rise. As soon as we get the slightest sniffle or temporary cough our first focus is on going to the doctor so as they can prescribe their conventional medicine. But more an more people are turning to other, more alternative means to cure all that ails them. Doctors, after all, are human just like us, right? They make mistakes just like everyone else, right? Even the most caring doctor in the world can slip up. Not so bad, I guess…as long as it’s not your life on the line.
As problems with many conventional drugs have escalated, more and more people are looking for more natural means to cure themselves. Alternative medicine though is not new. In fact it is the oldest medicine on earth. People have been using various non-traditional medical means to help sick patients for thousands of years. But make no mistake, alternative medicine does not necessarily mean swallowing some sort of pill.
Alternative treatments can also include massage therapy, meditation, acupuncture as well as herbal medicine meant for ingestion. Other natural treatments can also include yoga, acupuncture, hypnosis, meditation, color therapy and many more. As you can probably guess, alternative medicine is about helping the patient in multiple ways. This makes sense as we are all different and respond to different stimuli in different ways. This is just one of man’s curious nature of finding more than one way, perhaps a better way.
People motivated to seek natural remedies has increased for various reasons. More and more doctors are making medical errors endangering the lives of some patients. It could be because they are afraid of the potential complications due to side effects of drugs or even addiction. I guess that sometimes the “cure” is worse than the disease.
The driving force behind alternative medicine is its focus on overall well being. Where conventional medicine tends to problems dealing with the physical body, alternative medicine focuses on the body, mind and even the soul. Rather than just focusing on various physical parts of the body that need treatment, natural healing focuses on the whole body. Each body part is connected to another and so on. Each body part may also require a different technique for healing or even multiple techniques. For example, one treatment for a sore back is massage therapy. But if the underlying reason for a sore back is too much stress or not enough exercise, than a different method is required.
Professionals in alternative medicine disciplines working with their patients try to instill in them to live life well; to be happy and live life with a purpose. This is all part of healthy living. In other words, don’t bother losing weight unless you have a good reason to – such as “to live” – “to play with my kids more” – “to enjoy the outdoors” – “to look good again”, etc.
So if you’re just not too sure about “conventional treatments” like prescription medications or even surgery, than it may be time to think of alternative methods to help fix your body. Of course, this should be done with due diligence and caution. If you are already under the care of a doctor, you should consult with them and ask for their advice. I did that. I told my doctor that I want to find different ways to help my body other than taking pills. Although many doctors will still advise you to just stick with them, my doctor was happy to know that I finally took charge of my body and he gave me a referral.
Of course, any serious, life-threatening health problems should incorporate both conventional and alternative methods. Serious health cases means pulling out all the stops. The more help you have the better your chances. Consult with your doctor and avoid complications you may not be able to back out of. If you plan this well, taking advantage of both conventional and alternative medicnes can help you sustain a long healthy, happy and fruitful life.
