The year 2000 saw the arrival of Vaniqa cream on the market. This cream, designed to deal with unwanted facial hair on women, had passed rigorous testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before getting approval.

So what is Vaniqa cream?

Vaniqa is the brand name for a cream containing 139mg/g of eflornithine hydrochloride. It took the name “eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9%” and was sold under the brand name – Vaniqa.

The pharmaceutical companies were able to develop this drug into Vaniqa cream which can interrupt hair growth.

How is Vaniqa cream used?

Vaniqa cream should be applied to the skin twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening for example. Simply massage it into the area you want to treat such as the upper lip, beneath the chin or other facial area.

You should wait for the cream to dry before you use any other cosmetics on the facial area.

What does Vaniqa cream do?

Vaniqa cream helps to disable the mechanism for hair growth in the hair follicle. It is not a depilatory, so don’t expect Vaniqa to actually remove unwanted hair. It helps stop it from growing.

Vaniqa cream slows down the hair growth you don’t need to use your regular hair removal method so often, whether that is waxing, or sugaring, or tweezing, or threading.

When will I see results?

This varies from person to person but many women see a difference in hair growth after 6-8 weeks if they use the cream twice a day. Persistence and patience is needed. Six months is a reasonable time to give it a fair chance.

Are they any side effects?

Vaniqa cream is only available on prescription but the fact it has been FDA approved indicates it has passed vigorous safety tests and clinical trials.

A small number of test participants reported a little swelling or redness and irritation on the skin. Those were the only side effects reported.

What is the success rate?

In the clinical trials, around 58% of the women who used Vaniqa cream reported a decrease in hair growth. This means a fairly large proportion did not see a difference. Hence, Vaniqa may not work for everyone. The idea is to try it and see for yourself as each individual is different in the way they respond to medications.

Are there any limitations with Vaniqa cream?

Vaniqa cream is intended only for women. Also young females under 12 years of age should not use it.

There is insufficient data to suggest it is safe for pregnant or nursing women to use Vaniqa cream so caution is needed. Pregnant or nursing women may choose not to use Vaniqa cream to be on the safe side.

To summarize: Many women have found Vaniqa cream to be the answer they were looking for. Perhaps you would like to try it and see if it works for you. Use it as a follow up treatment after each hair removal session which takes the hair out by the root, such as waxing, or tweezing, and then see if the hair growth is significantly reduced as the weeks go by.

Why not experiment and see if you are in the 58% of women who found Vaniqa cream reduces facial hair growth.
