@DavidJamesZimmerman full employment returned only with start of wwii, proving that when jobs are there most people take them. Unfortunately given the vagaries of life it is not always possible to provide for yourself or family therefore you pay taxes to ensure when the bad times come you and your family can survive without having to be supported by "charity". The Government already ensures cheap food by subsidising farmers. Clothing can be very cheap or 2nd hand the government is not your enemy

@DavidJamesZimmerman You are correct "It is up to us to provide for ourselves and our family." The problems start when circumstances beyond the control or desire of the individual or family conspire to destroy that ability. Overwhelmingly most people given the choice would choose to be in employment. Overwhelmingly most people given the choice would prefer not to get sick.During the 30's millions were made homeless and destitute having to rely for existence such as it was on "charity". |
