Workouts For Women-How Do They Differ?

by Don Raemond

An effective workout regimen for women doesn’t vary too much from what is effective for men. The only thing that may be slightly different is the goals women may aim for. Men are usually trying to add muscle and lose flab.

Women on the other hand, usually wish to tighten and tone, and also shed excess flab. So the same exercises men tend to do, will also apply to women, the only noticeable difference might be lower intensities.

Another key difference in work outs for women is that women enjoy doing things other than hitting the gym machines. A lot of fitness classes are geared toward women and their likes and dislikes.

Workouts for women that are popular in big gyms are fitness classes like yoga, and Latin cardio, and high impact fitness classes like Tae bo. Also pilates is a huge hit with women, as well as spinning classes. Many workouts for women tend to include elements of dancing, or martial arts, or things that keep it fun and lively for them.

Belly dancing is also one of the great activities women seem to particularly enjoy. The moves are a blast, and keep you engaged through the entire class just trying to learn them. The same thing could be said about the striptease cardio classes.

You probably won’t see too many men in one of those classes. As a rule the male counterpart may not take striptease classes but they will more than likely appreciate it if their wife comes home and tries out what they learned at class!

Workouts for women may also include more manly activities, such as boot camp type classes for the serious minded female. Classes like krav maga and mixed martial arts are also available nowadays. More women are frequenting those classes too.

It depends on the woman and her individual preferences as to what types of workouts she may choose to get involved in. But the choices are so many and varied that workouts for women is somewhat of a misnomer. These days, it could be referred to as workouts for everybody!
